Sweatshirts for Fall
Fun sleeves on tops are still the trend, and I for one am enjoying this trend. This trend also includes sweatshirts as well. And why not, it is a top, right?
Aww, but Sweatshirts aren't what they used to be!
Sweatshirts have come a long way since their inception in 1919. The first sweatshirt had a hood and was manufactured out of the Knickerbocker Knitting Company. It wasn't until the early 1930's that Champion created a method which allowed them to sew thicker underwear material together. These sweatshirts were marketed to laborers working in freezing weather in upstate New York.
The term Sweatshirt is: a loose, long-sleeved, collarless pullover of soft, absorbent fabric, such as cotton jersey, with close-fitting or elastic cuffs and sometimes a drawstring at the waist, commonly worn during athletic activity for warmth or to induce sweating.
The sweatshirts I wore as a child up into my teens are even different than what we have now. Sweatshirts when I was a child were tops we played in when the weather got cooler. I didn't much care for wearing a coat (must kids don't). Why be bothered with having to wear a thick heavy coat? A sweatshirt was wonderful to put on over a t-shirt and run to go play with the neighborhood kids. As I moved into my teens, it was what we wore for gym class. It was great for a teen like me who was a little on the chunky side and very uncomfortable with my body image, having to run around in gym class with a bunch of girls and guys. It hid a lot, and I was thankful for that.
Now sweatshirts are different, so much so you can wear them over a blouse with a pair of trousers for a business casual look. They are not only athletic wear but fun wear, business wear and casual wear. It all depends on how you style it.
I had fun wearing this red one the other day! It has this fancy sleeve with these grommets and thin cotton ribbon running through it. It will be a good one to take to a Georgia football game where black, red and white are the team colors. If you are liking this sweatshirt with jazzy sleeves, I've given you a few more to look at down below. The good news is this red sweatshirt happens to be on sale too. I paired it with this denim skirt, wedges and cross body bag. If you know me, you know my love of all denim. I decided on this denim skirt instead of shorts, because I wanted to dress the sweatshirt up a pinch. It was an easy choice, because I had been going through my skirts for fall and trying them all on.
I ran around in the little town of Decatur, Georgia this day. I had such an interesting time exploring the town square, the boutiques and eateries. We also found this park area down from the high school. It was such a pretty day out, we stopped for a minute in the park to sit and relax, before we headed back home.
Enjoy the Fall - don't Sweat it!
