My Daddy and Father's Day
Father's Day is around the corner, but there is still time to plan a celebration for your dad or your husband, if your kids are too young to do so themselves. You also have time to grab something special for them as well. I know I will be celebrating my sweet daddy in a big way because he has been such an integral part of my life. I am also so very happy to have him so close to me. When he moved here 12 years ago, he would say it's been non-stop since then. I suppose that's what happens when you have 4 kids.
He still is a whipper snapper at the age of 81 years old. I can also see where I get a bit of my stubbornness from. Haha, the saying the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree is so true for me.
My dad has always been a hard worker and a man who could fix anything. He learned how to fly at an early age, because my grandfather was a pilot. He could take apart an airplane engine and put it back together again. Thinking about that still blows my mind! He was the youngest pilot in a fly-in to an airport in Tulsa, OK at the age of 16 years old. He won a trophy for that. I have to be honest, I don't think I could have let one of my kids do that, but times were very different then. He was in college to be a veterinarian and met my mom. He fell in love and decided to join the Air Force. He thought "how hard could it be?', he already knew how to fly.
He traveled the world and retired with 37 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. He has served his country well, which is one of the many things I'm so very proud of him for. He also can still fit in his military uniform, which I think is a huge accomplishment too! He still wears his uniform on Labor Day, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day and the 4th of July. I always try and get a picture of the two of us together. I'm so very honored he's my dad.
He now spends his days playing golf 4-5 times a week. He quite a good golfer and has had time to hone his skills, like he has done for most of everything he does. He shoots his age and sometimes lower. His heart is big for people, his family and friends. He's a greeter at church each Sunday and teaches Sunday school. He knows more people than I do, and I've lived here 22 years! He's only lived here 12 years, but thats the kind of person he is, he's never met a stranger.
So what do you get the man that has pretty much everything? Well, he loves cologne and smelling good. So he'll get the newest fragrance that happens to be out from me. It's become a tradition that I've done for at least the last 11 years he has been here. He has an interesting collection and is happy when someone notices how manly he smells.
I've also given you several other Father's Day gift ideas down below too. They range from watches to gadgets (what man doesn't love new gadgets to play with?) shirts, new running shoes, barbeque grills and electronics. Many of these items we have purchased for him over the years.
So if you happen to be scrambling to figure out what to pick up, here are a few things that may help you!
Take a look and tell me what you think?
Happy Father's Day to all the father's out there!
I Love You Daddy!
